The Danish steamship Algarve SS, Capt. J. Mikkelsen, was taken over by the Ministry of War Transport after the German occupation of Denmark in April, 1940. The vessel was managed for the Ministry by the firm of Chr. Salvesen. On February 19th, 1941, she was torpedoed and sunk by the German E-boat S-102 (Töniges) near Sheringham Light float. All hands, about 25 officers and men, were lost.
